University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Unveils $600 Million Expansion Project: Officials from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System have announced plans to transform the center's Oakland campus, including improvements to existing buildings and the construction of a biotechnology center, children's hospital, and child and adult ambulatory care center. Information: Jane Duffield, (412) 624-2607 .Ohio State College of Medicine, University of Tokyo Sign Agreement: A five-year academic cooperation agreement between the Ohio State University College of Medicine and the University of Tokyo aims to promote mutual cooperation in education and scientific research. The agreement includes exchanges of scientific materials, student and faculty exchanges, and joint research activities. Brownell Anderson, (202) 828-0665 .University of Michigan, St. John Health System Sign Affiliation Agreement: Under a new affiliation agreement, Detroit-based St. John Health System will become part of the University of Michigan Cancer Center Network. Information: Zoila Brown, (313) 3443-7458 .Ohio State Receives $10 Million for Heart Center: With the help of a $10 million gift from Libby Ross, the Ohio State Medical Center plans to break ground next year on the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital. The hospital will be a four-story, 96-room facility named after Ross' husband, who was the former president of Ross Laboratories, now a division of Abbott Laboratories. UCSD Pediatrics, Children's Hospital to Affiliate: The University of California Board of Regents has endorsed a draft affiliation agreement between the University of California at San Diego and Children's Hospital and Health Center. Under the agreement, programs, including research and teaching activities, would be integrated and most of UCSD's pediatric inpatient care programs would be relocated to Children's Hospital.
