San Francisco, CA, November 9, 2002 - Theresa Bischoff, president of New York University (NYU) Hospitals Center and co-executive vice president of Mount Sinai NYU Health, began her one-year tenure as chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) today at the association's 113th Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Ms. Bischoff succeeds Ralph Snyderman, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Duke University Health System. As immediate past chair of the AAMC's Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH), Ms. Bischoff is also an active member of the association's Executive Council. She has been active in shaping public policy on health care, working with Congress on Medicare and Medicaid policy issues, and leading teaching hospitals' efforts to improve medical student education and training. Ms. Bischoff is immediate past chair of the Board of Governors Executive Committee of Greater New York Hospital Association. She is also past chair of the Board of the Combined Coordinating Council, a malpractice insurance consortium and is a member of the University HealthSystem Consortium Executive Committee. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Ms. Bischoff earned an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business and is a certified public accountant. Donald Wilson, M.D., dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, was named AAMC chair-elect.
