What:The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the Association of Academic Health Centers, and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) will host a special symposium to explore key policy issues on racial and ethnic diversity in the health professions. The program will feature a distinguished panel of health care leaders and educators, who will share their perspectives on the future of diversity, current admission and matriculation trends of under-represented minority students, the status of affirmative action programs, and the role of diversity in training health professionals. Additional information about the AAMC and U.S. medical schools and teaching hospitals is available. ### The Association of Academic Health Centers (AHC) represents those institutions comprised of a medical school (allopathic or osteopathic), at least one other health professions school or program, and one or more teaching hospitals (owned or affiliated). These institutions are the nation's primary resources for education in the health professions, biomedical and health related research, and many aspects of patient care services. The AHC institutional representatives are the CEOs of each academic health center who have full (or partial) responsibility for the health professions schools and the clinical enterprise. ### The Institute of Medicine is a private, nonprofit institution that provides health policy advice under a congressional charter granted to the National Academy of Sciences. |
