AAMC Annual Meeting Session to Focus on Stem Cell Research


WHAT: An AAMC annual meeting focus session will examine the ideological, ethical, and political issues that are confronting the promising field of human stem cell research. Irving L. Weissman, M.D., Department of Pathology, Stanford University School of Medicine, will discuss the scientific questions that stem cell research is seeking to answer. Most Reverend Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, will discuss stem cell research for one of the first times publicly and examine the perplexing moral and ethical issues that are inherent in such research. L. Dennis Smith, Ph.D., President, University of Nebraska, will address the public policy challenge of mediating the confrontation between scientific and ideological perspectives in the political arena.
