AAMC Journal Academic Medicine Goes Online
Washington, D.C., July 17, 2000--The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) announces the online availability of the journal Academic Medicine for the first time at www.academicmedicine.org. AAMC's Academic Medicine is the oldest English-language peer-reviewed journal devoted to issues related to the training of physicians.
The online version is published with Stanford University Libraries' HighWire Press. "The introduction of Academic Medicine online is a milestone for the journal," said AAMC President Jordan J. Cohen, M.D. "Changes to Academic Medicine's content, structure, and format are a natural step in the publication's continuing efforts to better serve the medical community." The online and print versions of the journal will initially have the same content, but as time progresses the electronic medium will offer much more.
The online version will eventually contain sections the print version does not, allowing the two to take on distinct identities that will serve readers in different ways. Readers will be able to search back issues and link to abstracts of cited articles. First published in 1926, Academic Medicine serves as an international forum for the exchange of ideas and information on policy, issues and research concerning academic medicine.
The journal publishes policy papers, analyses, essays, research reports, and other materials covering medical schools, hospitals, academic societies, and health policy agencies.
Access to the online journal will be free throughout 2000. Beginning in 2001, access will be restricted to subscribers. For more information on the journal, please contact Addeane Calleigh at 202-828-0590.
