NRMP To Include Neuroradiology Specialty Match

Washington, D.C., June 22, 2000--At The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Program Directors Subcommittee of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) announce the establishment of the Neuroradiology Specialty Match. The first match will be for training beginning July 1, 2002. Registration with the NRMP for the new fellowship match will begin in September 2000 and continue through December 27, 2000. Applicants will learn whether they matched into the program on January 17, 2001.

"The NRMP is pleased to welcome Neuroradiology as a participant in the specialty match program," said NRMP Executive Director Robert L. Beran, Ph.D. "Their participation will provide applicants with a uniform and systematic approach to their application for fellowships in Neuroradiology and should also greatly assist program directors in their selection process."

In addition to conducting the general Match in the spring of each year, the NRMP provides matching services for many specialties throughout the year. The NRMP matches over 3,000 residents annually in 20 fellowships. The subspecialties include:

The National Resident Matching Program was established in 1952 to provide a mechanism that would end the chaotic state of applicants and programs being forced to make commitments before all options could be considered. In addition, the program provides a common time for the announcement of the appointments, as well as an agreement for programs and applicants to honor the commitment to offer and accept an appointment if a match results.
