Medicare Coverage of Clinical Trials

The AAMC supports the Clinton Administration's plan directing the Medicare program to pay for the routine expenses of beneficiaries volunteering to participate in clinical research trials. This directive not only will increase access for all Medicare beneficiaries to new and innovative experimental treatments, but will also more broadly advance our understanding of diseases and their treatment to the benefit of all Americans.
The AAMC is eager to see additional details of the new policy put forth by the Administration. The Association looks forward to working with the White House and the relevant federal agencies to expedite the implementation of this new policy.
