The AAMC's Women in Medicine program assists dean's offices, Women Liaison Officers (WLOs), and individual faculty members in addressing gender-related inequities and improving the pathways for women to contribute fully to academic medicine.

Medical school deans may appoint one or two WLOs to the AAMC. Currently 125 U.S. schools have appointed 225 WLOs and 16 Canadian schools. WLOs play a major role in fostering women's networking and in developing and sharing resources within and among medical centers.

The WIM office offers two popular annual professional development seminars for women faculty. One seminar targets early career instructors and assistant professors. The other seminar focuses on mid-career assistant professors with at least four years experience and associate professors. The three-day seminar topics include: conflict management, academic financial management, negotiating skills, and writing for professional journals. In addition to these seminars, the WIM office sponsors sessions during the AAMC annual meeting.
