OSR Communications UpdateSeptember 2009The Communications Committee had its latest conference call on August 13, 2009 to discuss three principal objectives. Attending the call were:
OSR Effective Practices Document - The final release of the Communications Committee principal project for the first 6 month term has been slightly delayed. However, the product is reaching its final stages and should be available in electronic form by the Annual Meeting. The outgoing Committee is finishing the module, which focuses on the effective practices used by medical schools across the country to build an OSR presence. The final product will provide a step by step description on how to build or maintain this OSR presence at your own medical school. Regional Meetings Digest - The Regional Meetings Digest should be distributed to the OSR body-at-large before the upcoming September Ad Board Meeting. The Digest, available in a brand new format, is sleeker and more colorful than its predecessors packed with pictures and news stories about our adventures in Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, and Santa Fe. The articles include two comprehensive pieces on the Commonwealth Medical College and the Institute of Medicine's report on Residency Duty Hours, as well as smaller articles on medical school efforts to improve diversity, the New Scramble, common academic problems, USMLE news, and medical finance. Preview Newsletter for the Annual Meeting - The Committee outlined one major goal for the remaining months of this National Delegate's term. The Committee plans to create a final newsletter previewing the upcoming AAMC-OSR Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. The newsletter will consist of articles that bring to focus some of the important issues affecting medical students and elaborate on some of the plenary and break-out sessions offered at the Annual Meeting. Finally, the newsletter will provide new OSR representatives with some key orientation elements to make their transition into the OSR community an easy one. Sameer Vohra
