Organization of Resident RepresentativesApril 2004Chair's MessageCollaboration with the Council of Academic Societies (CAS) was an integral part of our recent successful Professional Development Conference in Santa Monica, CA. Members of the ORR renewed old friendships and welcomed new members during our three-day spring meeting. Highlights ranged from plenary sessions on the quality of care, a presentation on over-utilization of technology, an interactive session on how to prepare a resume highlighting excellence as a clinician educator, among others. (Please see selected session summaries below.) The ORR was part of the AAMC's initiative to preserve the legality of the Match legislation, and was pleased to hear that on April 7th the President signed into law legislation clarifying that the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) does not violate antitrust law. Students and residents alike benefit from the convenience and innate fairness of the match. The ORR is pleased that the system of matching students and residents with advanced training positions has been preserved. Planning for our Annual Meeting in Boston, MA is well underway and it promises to be a stimulating meeting. With an exciting location such as Boston MA, we have invited excellent local speakers and have set aside some free time to enjoy the sights as well. At this meeting, we will review the ORR by-laws and proposed changes; updated by-laws will be sent to you prior to the annual meeting, so that you have an opportunity to review the changes in advance to the by-laws vote in November. I hope that this letter finds all of you well as another academic year draws to a close. I look forward to seeing you all at the Annual Meeting. Sincerely, Jane E. D. Broecker, M.D. |
