Faculty Compensation

AAMC Faculty Salary Reports is a Web-based system that allows individuals who are affiliated with AAMC member institutions or other AAMC constituents to access faculty salary report tables. These tables are identical to the tables in the AAMC annual report on medical school faculty salaries. They present compensation data for filled, full-time faculty positions at U.S. medical schools. Summary tables provide average compensation, number reporting, and percentile statistics by rank and department for basic and clinical science faculty. Additional tables summarize data by school ownership, degree held, and geographic region. An AAMC user ID and password are required for access to these tables online.

The AAMC also assigns specialized IDs and passwords to deans and principal business officers to access the FSS Report Generator, which allows users to produce customized reports based on the annually administered Faculty Salary Survey. The following types of reports may be generated: salary comparison reports, departmental salary statistics reports, and general tables containing summary statistics with no schools individually identified. All reports present total compensation attributable to teaching, patient care, and research for full-time medical school faculty members. Data can be tabulated by department, rank, degree, school ownership, and geographic region. Users can view the results online or download them as Excel spreadsheets.

Faculty Personnel Policies

In an effort to maintain up-to-date baseline information on medical school faculty personnel policies, the AAMC regularly conducts a Faculty Personnel Policies Survey. This survey covers core issues around appointment, tenure, promotion, retirement, and compensation policies and structures. Results of these surveys are kept in a protected database and individuals affiliated with AAMC-member institutions can access the database online using their AAMC Login.
