Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award

AAMC Grants and Awards

The RAISE Project
A campaign designed to increase the status of professional women through enhanced recognition of the achievements of women in science, engineering, mathematics, and medicine.

The Women in Medicine Leadership Development Awards recognize individual and organizational contributions to advancing women leaders in academic medicine. Since the first award in 1993, these prestigious awards have recognized 16 individuals and seven medical school based women in medicine programs.

The award presentation is made during the Women in Medicine luncheon at the AAMC Annual meeting. The AAMC will cover travel expenses. Awardees receive an inscribed plaque and one complimentary registration (valued at $1,270) for one of the AAMC's popular Women Faculty Professional Development Seminars.

Selection Process

The AAMC Women in Medicine Coordinating Committee strongly encourages nominations of established and emerging leaders and programs. Any member of the academic medicine community may nominate one individual and/or organization for the award. Nominees that were submitted but not accepted from previous years are eligible. The committee will review all nominee submissions for evidence of extraordinary, innovative, and far-reaching contributions that:

Inspire women to be leaders through their own careers in academic medicine;
Promote women's leadership through the individual's accomplishments;
Encourage the development of academic women leaders;'
Improve the educational and professional environment for sustaining women in academic medicine; and/or
Enhance the development of women faculty into positions of greater leadership
