Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS)
About GWIMS
In August 2009, the AAMC's Board of Directors approved the creation
of the Group on Women in Medicine and Science. This action established
the longstanding Women in Medicine program as a formal AAMC professional
development group, congruent with other AAMC groups. This new group
replaces the former Women in Medicine (WIM) and Women Liaison Officers
(WLO) network.
The mission of the GWIMS is to advance the full and successful
participation of women in all roles within academic medicine. The
GWIMS will serve as a national forum to advance women's success
in medicine and science by addressing:
- gender equity
- recruitment and retention
- awards and recognition
- career advancement
Who can be a GWIMS Representative?
Deans and CEOs designate the primary individual who advocates for
women's advancement in leadership and education, research, clinical
practice, and administration. Additional members of your institution
who would like to be a GWIMS representative should send a request
to dlautenberger@aamc.org.
