New York University School of Medicine:
NYC-wide Career Workshop (PDF, 10 pages, 336KB)
Graduate students and postdocs in the greater NYC area were invited to participated in a career symposium titled “What Can You Be With a Ph.D.?” Over 800 registrants participated in the scheduled activities: four seminars, four workshops, two plenary sessions, and one keynote address.
University of Alberta: Professional Development Program
There are three areas to the program: Career Development, Communication,
and Professional Practice. In order to receive a certificate of participation
the PD must complete 10 hours of sessions for each unit. The PD
may choose to take one or all units. The program is offered at no charge
and upon completion, the PD is presented with a completion letter and
certificate.

Two hour networking Sessions are offered the first Wednesday
of each month with speakers.
University of Chicago, Division of Biological Sciences:
Postdoctoral Fellow Supplement PD research fellows will be provided an
annual supplemental stipend (PDF, 2 pages, 88KB) to assist in the purchase of health, dental,
life and long term disability coverage.

University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs: Career Workshop Series
The Career Workshop Series (PDF, 1 page, 88KB) is designed to provide our postdocs with information on the current market trends, critical job search skills, types of employment opportunities, as well as to provide insights into the personal experiences of Penn postdoc alumni. The Career Workshop Series runs every other spring over a one month period. The workshop normally occurs on a Wednesday morning from 9:00-12:00pm, (full schedule, PDF, 89KB). Each workshop ends with an open forum where the postdocs can ask the speakers their questions.
The four workshop themes are:
1. Basic Job Search Skills
2. Pursuing an Academic Career
3. Career Opportunities in Industry
4. Alternative Career Paths
University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs: Online Writing Courses
Two writing courses (PDF, 2 pages, 59KB) are offered, a writing for biomedical professionals and a grammar for writers. With your instructor and peers, the PD will work on weekly writing assignments. The course lasts 14 weeks and requires a time commitment of 3-5 hours/week. Each course costs $600.
University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs: Research Success Skills Workshop Series
The Research Success Skills Series (PDF, 1 page, 113KB) occurs every other spring and runs over a one month period. The workshop normally occurs on a Wednesday morning from 8:30-12:00pm (full schedule, PDF, 87KB.) Each workshop ends with an open forum where the postdocs can ask the speakers their questions. An additional component to this series is our Scientific Writing Workshops. This part occurs over a 5-week period where a small group of postdocs are lead by a faculty member one night per week. They go through a series of exercises to improve on their writing and English skills to become more effective writers for the many abstracts, papers, grants, etc. that they need to write.

University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs: Research Symposium
The Biomedical Postdoc Research Symposium is an annual fall event organized by both the Biomedical Postdoctoral Council and the Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs. The event runs for half a day with lecture and poster presentations and a keynote speaker. All lectures and posters are judged by faculty judges and prizes are awarded at the end of the day. This past year’s symposium (PDF, 1 page, 83KB) was held on November 12, 2003 from 12:00-6:30 pm.
