About GRA
MembershipMembers of the Group on Resident Affairs are responsible for graduate medical education at the institutional level. They have titles such as Assistant or Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, Director of Medical Education, Director of Graduate Medical Education, Vice President for Academic Affairs, or Associate Chief of Staff for Education. Each member is appointed by the dean of an accredited U.S. medical school, or the chief executive officer of a member of the AAMC Council of Teaching Hospitals and Healthcare Systems, or the president of one of the AAMC Council of Academic Societies. PurposeThe purpose of the Group on Resident Affairs (GRA) is to be the national professional development organization for academic medicine leaders in graduate medical education (GME), advancing the quality of GME leadership in medical schools and hospitals and fostering institutional accountability for GME. The GRA will serve as a resource for these leaders, who are responsible for graduate medical education oversight, administration, financing and quality in their institutions. The Group will provide a forum for discussion of:
The Group on Resident Affairs will, through interactions with the Council of Deans, Council of Teaching Hospitals, Council of Academic Societies, Organization of Resident Representatives, and Organization of Student Representatives, advise the AAMC on matters of policy relating to the GRA's interest and expertise. The Group may make recommendations to the AAMC governance for consideration. Rules and RegulationsThe name, purpose, membership, meetings, business, and responsibilities are defined in the GRA Rules and Regulations. StaffThe Group on Resident Affairs is staffed by the AAMC Division of Health Care Affairs, headed by Robert M. Dickler, Senior Vice President. |
