Web Site Redesign
In May 2007, the Stanford University School of Medicine launched a redesign of its Web environment to provide a more modern, cohesive Web presence for the school and its constituents, enhance user experience, and raise public awareness of critical medical issues and Stanford's leadership in addressing them.
Goals
- Reinforce Stanford's position as a trusted source of up-to-date
biomedical information.
- Accommodate the diverse needs of the site's audiences.
- Create a cohesive experience across all school sites while supporting the branding and workflow needs of individual departments and groups.
- Support dynamic content and user interaction in keeping with current Web trends.
- Streamline maintenance processes to ensure fresh, relevant content across the school's Web environment.
Results
- The new design empowers departments and other school groups to customize an inviting "front door" and logical navigation structure for their sites while remaining closely allied with the school's global Web environment.
- The design's alignment with the Stanford Hospital and Clinics Web site also gives users a continuous experience as they move between these interconnected sites.
- Feedback on the redesign has been overwhelmingly positive. Stanford University leaders have praised the new site for its aesthetics and usability.
- A number of outside institutions have inquired about the possibility of
hiring the school's Public Web and Multimedia Group to help develop their
sites.
