Woodruff Health Sciences Center of Emory University

We’ve Only Just Begun

A foundation president requested that we produce a special annual report/brag book for the health sciences center. The center budgeted $50,000 for this project. The audience (other than the foundation president) and purpose of the book needed to be clarified, and various important stakeholders expressed diverse (and all worthwhile!) opinions about what the report should include. After many meetings, e-mails, phone calls, changes, additions, deletions, and gnashing of teeth, we produced a book with compelling content that met the goals of the parties involved, including the foundation president. We agreed on a theme (We’ve only just begun…to ask questions, to find answers, to define the possible, etc.).

Goals

  • Create a special publication for the foundation president and at the same time use it as a development tool,
perhaps even as the basis of a case statement for health sciences for an upcoming capital campaign.

Results

  • The book was mailed with a letter from the CEO to the foundation and other major donors and also
distributed around campus, including patient waiting rooms.
  • Today, only 120 copies of the original 6,000 printed remain.
  • The foundation president was happy with the results, and the vice president for development said, "I think
the book turned out excellent and that the distribution was exactly as it should have been."
