Stanford Medicine
Stanford Medicine, Stanford Medicine magazine seeks to shape public opinion and enhance
local, national, and international awareness of Stanford University
Medical Center by offering perspectives on contemporary medical
concerns from Stanford faculty, students and alumni. At the same
time, the publication informs its readers of the education, research,
clinical care and community service activities that take place here.
The magazine is produced three times a year, averages 44 pages, and
each print run provides 15,500 copies of the magazine.
Goals
- Strive to engage readers inside and outside of academic medicine.
- Raise public awareness of important medical issues.
- Spread the message the Stanford Medical Center is a leader in medical
education, practice and vision.
Results
- Basic and clinical scientists state that the articles serve to explain their
activities to colleagues working outside of their fields – sometimes
even sparking new collaborations.
- Clinicians use the magazine as a way to explain procedures to
patients and their families.
- Several clinical programs use the magazine to promote the medical
center among referring physicians and international patients.
- The online version of the magazine gets thousands of hits per year.
- Stanford Medicine articles are cited by journalists in other publications.
- Receive frequent requests for permission to reprint articles.
