Indiana University School of Medicine
Indiana University School of Medicine Centennial Web Site
The Indiana University School of Medicine Centennial Web site provides
a written and pictorial history of the institution. The Web site serves
as an inexpensive and attractive communications tool, and an ongoing repository
of historical information about the school. Public and media relations
officers collaborated with archivists, historians, and writers to assemble
the site, which went live in August of 2003.
Goals
- Create a permanent public document containing the medical school's
historical information
- Document should be thorough and eye-catching
- Publication should be ready for distribution within a year
- Production should be inexpensive
Results
- Web site development began in January 2003
- No extra software or hardware were purchased. The school of medicine's
Web team worked on this project; no additional dollars were spent
on contractors
- The site has four main sections: an interactive timeline, a photo album
spanning 11 decades, a section describing important eras in the school's
history, and another documenting the institution's 100th anniversary
celebration containing a video stream
- The site contains more photographs than any printed volume would
- From August 2003 to May 2004, the site had nearly 30,000 page
views. Not surprisingly, the most viewed section is the photo album
- The site routinely generates praise and inquiries from internal and
external sources
