Opening Windows Into the Brain

Neurology and breakthroughs in understanding the human mind are two areas of intense medical study that could remain a central focus for several decades. Leaders at Johns Hopkins University developed a booklet to educate both researchers and patients about the work being done at the new Brain Sciences Institute to demystify the body's most complex organ.

Goals

  • To create a clear, easy-to-understand brochure that would explain brain sciences research, emphasize the essential role this work plays in the future of medicine and the potential it holds for curing a multitude of neurological diseases.
  • Encourage potential donors to contribute generously to sustain research efforts.

Results

  • A well-written, lively illustrated brochure that raised more than $10 million for the first six months at the Brain Sciences Institute and is now used by Johns Hopkins researchers to explain their work to patients and students.
  • Publication serves as a recruitment tool to bring new faculty to the university.
