HSC News
The HSC News and HSC News Web site are the internal news
vehicles for the faculty and staff of the Health Science Center. The newsletter
and Web site work together to provide news to an audience of widely divergent
educational levels and interests. The audience runs the gamut --from the
faculty member with a Ph.D., to the staff member without a high school
diploma. Not only are the newsletter and Web site sources of news and
information for employees, they also serve as tools that
are preparing employees for the future when digital communications becomes
the primary method of
receiving news and information at the Health Science Center.
Goals
- A cost-effective internal communications vehicle that would communicate
university news to
faculty and staff of widely divergent educational levels of interests.
- Showcase programs and research at the UTHSC to the 5,000+ employees.
- Provide human-interest stories appealing to all employees.
- Offer "news to use" for everyone, such as items on employee benefits,
clinical study enrollments,
library hours and campus events.
- Create a news Web site supported by a print newsletter.
Results
- Within the first week of its 11- month existence, approximately 100
calls were received from
faculty requesting to have news of their grants, achievements, programs,
etc. posted online and
published in the newsletter.
- Majority of employee respondents of a phone survey said the HSC News
was their primary
vehicle for receiving campus news.
- Attendance increased at events publicized in the newsletter and online.
- Since its inception, the HSC News Web site is viewed more than 2,600
times by nearly
1,000 visitors each month.
