Pictures of Health
Pictures of Health is a quarterly publication that aims to raise
awareness of and promote programs of the University of Minnesota Medical
School and the other schools and colleges in the Academic Health Center.
The audience includes Minnesota opinion leaders in health care, media,
and government, those whose support is critical to the efforts of public
funding, private philanthropy, student recruiting, and other arenas.
Goals
- To make Pictures of Health stand out visually among the many items
in busy people's in-boxes,
the publication is oversized 13-1/4 inches high by 9-1/2 inches wide.
- Address the current situation of the Medical School and the other
health professional schools in
each issue through stories that are substantial in content, yet approachable
in style.
- Strive to illustrate perennial themes in each issue, such as faculty
expertise in cutting-edge research,
the impact of that research on patients and health, the university's
commitment to community-based
education, the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork, and measures
to help those underserved by
the health-care system.
Results
- The Spring 2002 issue includes a memo from Frank Cerra, M.D., senior
vice president for health
sciences, thanking the readers for their continued support and help
in maintaining needed funding.
- In 2003, the Legislature has committed to help finance health professional
education and rebuild
the medical school.
- Stories are regularly picked up by University Relations, the central
communications office at the
university, for use in an online newsletter to friends of the University.
