The news Web site for the Duke University Medical Center News Office
(MCNO) was several years old and was only generating 3,000 "hits"
from the news media per month. Therefore in 2001 the office undertook
the challenge of creating a new Web site that would better serve
the media's and Duke University Medical Center's needs.
Goals:
- Create new editorial content based on reporter feedback
- Make Web site easier to use
- Generate more "hits" from news media
Results:
- New Web site was launched in 2001, dukemednews.duke.edu
- Received over 120,000 "hits" within the first few months of
launch
- Editorial content has been gaining more attention, due in part
to the new design of the Web site
- Increased interest in faculty projects, with more interview
requests coming from the media
- Provides an introduction to many aspects of research and clinical
care at the Medical Center.
