Johns Hopkins Medicine
"Dome"
Dome has been the internal employee publication for
Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions for over 50 years and is
the primary communications tool for staff. This past year,
the magazine went for four to eight pages in order to accommodate
the larger Johns Hopkins Medical community. This community
includes a home care business, a managed care arm, a string
of primary care sites, and a newly acquired community hospital.
Goals
- Keep a diverse and geographically scattered workforce
informed of new Hopkins initiatives and major issues facing
the health care industry
- Instill in employees a sense of pride in their workplace
- Recognize the accomplishments of a cross-section of employees
- Influence and motivate staff to contribute to the efforts
of Johns Hopkins during a competitive time in the health
care industry
- Help recruit nurses and employees in the allied health
professions
Results
- Readership is high, with an increase in story ideas submissions
- External readers have requested to be added to the mailing
list
- U.S. News & World Report used a Dome cover story
as a launching for their own article
