About GFPMembershipThe Group on Faculty Practice (GFP) is composed of both physicians and executive leaders. A medical school may have a total of four representatives in the GFP; members are appointed by the dean of each LCME accredited medical school. Each dean selects one physician representative who holds the senior position in plan governance, and one senior administrator from within the medical school environment as their GFP representatives. Medical School deans may also appoint two additional representatives from governance and administration. The Group on Faculty Practice has a nine-member Steering Committee to assist staff in developing GFP services and educational programs. The Steering Committee holds bi-annual conferences, as well as a monthly calls. At these sessions, the committee coordinates and reviews staff projects, provides input to policy decisions, and plans future meetings. The Group on Faculty Practice Steering Committee has developed multiple subcommittees to better address the vast concerns of the nation's teaching physicians. A nominating committee meets identifies and nominates new officers to the Steering Committee prior to the annual business session conducted at the Summer Symposium. Faculty Practice Plan Survey (FPPS)The Faculty Practice Plan Survey (previously the Practice Plan Profiles Directory) is a Web-based data collection and reporting system designed exclusively for the GFP. This system collects comprehensive faculty practice plan financial and organizational information and allows participants to conduct individualized queries of the database. GFP members are able to submit their information to this database through a web-based interface. The data is compiled annually with summary information provided to participants. In addition, those institutions that submit data can query the database and receive detailed information on specific data elements for all other participating plans in the database. Members can also build peer cohorts for benchmarking and other types of analyses. Executive Compensation SurveyIn fall 2006, the AAMC began fielding the AAMC Group on Faculty Practice (GFP) Compensation Survey. This survey provides faculty practice plan leadership with information about the compensation of faculty practice plan employees and an understanding of the various duties that are associated with ten senior executive positions. Faculty Practice Solutions Center (FPSC)The University HealthSystem Consortium-AAMC Faculty Practice Solutions Center (FPSC) was created to help alleviate the burdensome nature of duplicative data collection and survey activities. It was designed to be a comprehensive resource for academic practice management benchmarking by having the best features of organizations' historical reporting initiatives and by expanding activity to meet critical gaps in the academic practice community's management data needs. FPSC includes data in the areas of physician clinical productivity, departmental financial and operational management, and the practice plan billing office. AAMC or UHC membership is a sufficient criterion for participation; however, the FPSC is a fee-for-service tool. To learn more about it, or to become a subscriber, please contact Mary Patton at 202-868-6297, mpatton@aamc.org. PublicationsGFP members receive Washington Highlights, the AAMC's weekly legislative and regulatory newsletter, and the AAMC Reporter, the monthly news publication. GFPLINK ListserveThe AAMC sponsors the "GFPLINK" listserve, exclusively for GFP members. All active GFP Members are subscribed to this list when they establish an e-mail address with the AAMC. This e-mail list provides GFP members with an avenue to pose questions to their peers and receive updates on key issues from the AAMC. AdvocacyAAMC staff actively engage federal legislators and regulators on initiatives that have an impact on the faculty practice, including changes in the financing and delivery of health care services.
