Nomination Form for 2009 RIME Program Planning Committee

The RIME section of the GEA welcomes your nominations, including self-nomination, for Members of the RIME Program Planning Committee

Deadline for receipt of submissions is March 30, 2008

The term on the RIME Program Committee is three years. Membership is determined by election, in which all RIME Section members are eligible to vote. Each year, the election is for two positions: a physician and a non-physician educator.

The Committee members with the guidance and support of Brownie Anderson, have several responsibilities, including to:

  • Plan the structure of the meeting
  • Issue the calls for submissions
  • review the submissions for research presentations and symposia
  • provide constructive feedback to authors on all submissions, and
  • identify areas of research methods and skills that would benefit from development.

A major responsibility of Committee members is the review of research papers that are submitted. The review includes detailed constructive feedback, which is provided on all submitted papers. The review takes place in late March and throughout the month of April. There are generally two two-day meetings yearly, in November/December, and in May.

The Nominating Committee reviews all nominations with a view to the individual's demonstrated experience and expertise in medical education research. This criterion is essential, as the review of submitted papers requires a good knowledge of the field, as well as the ability to provide constructive comment to the authors on how the work might be improved.

The Committee also considers the need for the RIME Committee to have perspectives that cross the medical education continuum, and that includes expertise in different research methodologies.

To help you in considering persons to nominate, the specific criteria to be considered are as follows:

  • Demonstrated productivity and peer-reviewed publications in medical education research
  • Participation in previous RIME program as BOTH a reviewer and presenter
  • Doctoral degree preferred
  • Responsible, fair-minded, willing to serve and hard-working
  • Be staff or faculty in good standing at an accredited medical school, a unit that serves a medical school, residency program or medical education related agency, e.g., NBME, ACOG, ABIM
  • Willing to serve for the full three years
  • May not have served previously on the RIME Program Planning Committee
