2008 Conference on Research in Medical Education
Calls for Submission
The 47th Annual Conference on Research in Medical Education (RIME) will
be held in conjunction with the AAMC Annual Meeting scheduled for October 31 - November
5, 2008, in San Antonio, Texas. The Conference is planned and organized by
the RIME Planning Committee, a committee of the AAMC Group
on Educational Affairs. The purpose of the Conference is to provide
a forum for the presentation and discussion of research concerning all
aspects of medical education.
Invited Proposal Types
Research Papers
Invited to promote dissemination and discussion of completed research.
Research paper sessions include three presenters who provide a 12-15 minute
summary of their research paper, a moderator, and a discussant whose responsibility
is to comment on key issues raised and generate discussion among presenters
and the audience. Accepted research papers are published in the October
2008 Academic Medicine Supplement.
Review Papers
Invited to synthesize existing research and provide direction for future
research and practice. Review paper sessions are scheduled for one hour
and are devoted to the presentation of a single paper by an author, with
extensive commentary by a discussant. Accepted review papers are published
in the October 2008 Academic Medicine Supplement.
Symposia
Invited to explore contrasting views on current research issues. Symposia
sessions are intended to provide diverse perspectives of research approaches,
questions, methods and/or applications in medical education. Symposia
sessions are one and a half hours. The abstracts of the Symposia are published
in the 2008 RIME Academic Medicine Supplement.
Abstracts
Invited to report results of exploratory and pilot studies. The abstracts
will be reproduced on a CD and distributed at the conference. Abstracts
are presented in one of two formats: Oral—A 10-minute presentation with
5 minutes for general discussion, presented in one and a half hour sessions,

allowing extended discussion with interested attendees.
