Call for Submissions: Abstract Submission Requirements

Please submit all abstracts using the Electronic Manuscript Submission Form

Structure

Abstracts should report completed investigations that contribute to medical education research and practice. In contrast to research papers, the results of smaller scale pilot projects, exploratory studies or components of larger projects may be submitted. Accepted abstracts will be reproduced and made available at the AAMC Annual Meeting. Abstracts will be presented in one of two formats that will be decided upon acceptance by the RIME Planning Committee:

  • Oral presentations: Simultaneous sessions of 10-minute presentations with 5 minutes for general discussion. (This schedule will be followed rigidly to allow audience members to move from room to room and hear presentations of interest), or;

  • Poster presentations: The poster session allows extended discussion with interested attendees.

Acceptance of an abstract and presentation does not preclude submission of the study as a research paper to subsequent RIME meetings, or consideration as a journal article in Academic Medicine or elsewhere.

Formatting

Abstract must not exceed 250 words, including references, but excluding title and authors. Capitalize the abstract title. Make the title brief, but clearly indicate the nature of the study. Type author(s) name(s), and institutional affiliation(s) in upper and lower case letters, two spaces beneath the abstract title -- omit degrees and professional titles. Do not use abbreviations in the title. Organize the text of the abstract as follows:

  • Purpose of study
  • Methodology, including study design and analyses
  • Summary of results
  • Conclusions

Criteria For Selection

  • Clarity of research statement
  • Interpretation of results
  • Originality of approach or question
  • Clarity of writing
  • Strength of research design and instrumentation

Submission Deadline

Fax submissions are not acceptable.
