Human Resources Interest Group

The purpose of the Human Resources Interest Group is to create a network of human resource professionals who can broadly share ideas, challenges, best practices, and development opportunities. This networking will lead to better integration of the human resources functions with the financial, operational, and strategic planning goals of the business of academic medicine and research.

AAMC Launches Organizational Performance Improvement Initiatives

The AAMC has begun to implement four pilot projects to help medical schools and teaching hospital improve their management and organizational effectiveness. Organizational Performance Improvement (OPI) is a series of purposeful activities and initiatives that extend traditional AAMC products and services to institution-level action. (Sept. 19, 2008)

The Faculty Affairs Listserve includes topics such as faculty appointments, tenure, promotions, tuition benefits for faculty, sabbaticals for faculty in clinical departments and faculty misconduct. This listserve is a useful method of communication for medical school professionals with responsibility for faculty affairs policies and faculty development issues.

Institutional Policy Search Tool

This database enables staff at AAMC-member medical schools to find and compare institutional policies on a wide variety of important topics such as: governance and bylaws; faculty policies such as appointment and tenure; research policies such as conflict of interest; and business policies such as patenting and intellectual property. Faculty Personnel Policies

This database contains information on appointment, promotion, and tenure policies of all 125 U.S. medical schools. Data come from an AAMC survey administered to U.S. medical schools every three years. For more information, e-mail Sarah Bunton, Ph.D., at sbunton@aamc.org.
