GBA Service Recognition Awards

Approved March 1993

Emeritus, Service With Distinction, and Honorary Member

Criteria

The Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Business Affairs (AAMC/GBA) establishes the following categories of awards: Emeritus, Service with Distinction, and Honorary Member. These categories of awards are intended to provide a standard for the organization to recognize members who have retired, or who leave academic medicine, and have provided outstanding commitment to the GBA. Contributions may have been provided in the form of leadership, exemplary service to the organization, and wisdom.

Nomination packages for candidates with an effective retirement or departing date on or before June 30th of the calendar year and received on or before June 30th, will be considered for recognition at the AAMC Annual Meeting in that calendar year. Nomination packages received after June 30th will be considered in the subsequent year.

Each candidate must be nominated by an active member of the GBA. Candidates may not nominate themselves. The nominating member must forward a nominating letter recommending the category, either "Emeritus", "Service with Distinction" or "Honorary Member" along with information to support the candidate's selection. This letter should be forwarded to the AAMC/GBA Executive Director by May 1st. The AAMC/GBA staff will confirm that the candidate meets the established criteria for the applicable category. When confirmation is received from AAMC staff, the nominating member will be responsible for obtaining four (4) supporting references from other GBA active or retired members and forwarding them to the AAMC/GBA staff to complete the candidate's nomination package.

The AAMC staff will review the completed candidate nomination packages and present the candidates for endorsement to the GBA Steering Committee. It will be the nominating member's responsibility to assure that the required information is received by the deadline and that the candidate's nomination package is complete.

The Steering Committee reserves the privilege to redefine or waive the criteria in unusual circumstances after review and discussion and unanimous vote to grant the exception.
