How to Join

The appointment authority for membership in FOCI Academe shall rest with the highest ranking institutional officials who have authority over and an interest in conflict of interest oversight in the institution. These institutional officials might include, for example, the executive vice president for the academic health center, the CEO of the hospital, or the medical school dean. When appropriate, this highest ranking institutional official may delegate this authority or share it with other senior officials. The highest ranking official(s) shall nominate an individual or individuals (as appropriate) from faculty, professional, or administrative ranks who serve(s) in a leadership role(s) in the oversight and management of conflict of interest matters for the institution.

Examples of members include senior institutional officials such as the institutional vice president or associate dean for research or research administration, or the vice president, dean, or associate dean who is accountable for conflict of interest oversight; the director and staff of the conflict of interest office; the chair or members of the conflict of interest committee; and others, such as the research compliance officer, other senior officials, including CME official and Chief Medical Officers, and members of the general counsel's office.
