The University of Colorado School of Medicine has appointed Dr. Robert Anderson chair of the department of medicine. Dr. Anderson has served as interim chair of the department since October 2002 and as head of the division of general internal medicine since 1995. Jeffrey Anglen, M.D. has been named Chair of the Indiana University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He will begin his new duties in early 2005. Dr. Anglen currently is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center.

Lee Lee Doyle, Ph.D. is the newly elected President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, a 2500 member organization committed to providing reproductive health services or education, conducting reproductive health research, and influencing reproductive health policies.

Craig Greven, M.D., Professor of Surgical Sciences - Ophthalmology, has been named Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Director of the Wake Forest University Eye Center, part of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Valerie Parisi, M.D., Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will join the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston as Dean of Medicine on October 1, making her the 12th woman Dean of a U.S. Medical School.

Claire Pomeroy, M.D., M.B.A., Executive Associate Dean of the University of California-Davis School of Medicine and an expert in infectious diseases, has been named Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of California-Davis.

Elisabeth Quint, M.D. was recently appointed to Assistant Dean of Clinical Faculty in the Office of Faculty Affairs at University of Michigan Health System.

Joan Reede, M.D., Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School was awarded Boston's Trailblazers of Color Award for the development and management of a comprehensive program that provides leadership, guidance, and support to promote the increased recruitment, retention, and advancement of under-represented minority faculty.

Carolyn Robinowitz, M.D. is the newly elected National Treasurer for the American Psychiatric Association.

Judith Rodin, Ph.D, former President of the University of Pennsylvania, was named president of the Rockefeller Foundation. She will assume her new position in March 2005 and succeeds Gordon Conway, who will retire at the end of the year. The Rockefeller Foundation has $3 billion in assets and provided $135 million in grants and programmatic investments in 2003. Patience White, M.D. is the first Chief Public Health Officer for the Arthritis Foundation. She will guide the public health role to improve the lives of the 70 million Americans with arthritis.

The AAMC Council of Deans recently selected three leaders (Jasjit Ahluwalia, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.; Mark Batshaw, M.D.; Anne Taylor, M.D.) for the 2004-2005 Council of Deans' Fellowship Program. For the next year, the leaders are paired with their respective mentors (Deborah Powell, M.D., University of Minnesota Medical School; Edward Miller, M.D., Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Arthur Rubenstein, MBBBCh.., University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine) to design a research project.
