Christine E. Haycock, M.D., FACS, was honored with the Fifth Annual Alma Dea Morani Renaissance Woman Award presented by the Trustees of the Foundation for the History of Women in Medicine and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Dr. Haycock is a pioneering female surgeon, a gifted photographer, an authority on women's health, a mentor to scores of women in healthcare, a former Olympic athlete, and a co-founder of the Association of Women Surgeons. She has been a major influence on the evolution of sports medicine for women. http://www.fhwim.org/index.html New Appointments & PromotionsSharon Anderson, M.D., Professor of Medicine (Nephrology and Hypertension), and Vice Chairwoman for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine, Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine, has been appointed OHSU's Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs. She will continue in her role as a Professor of Medicine. Janet Bickel, M.A., a specialist in Leadership Development for Women and Minority Faculty in Academic Medicine, has joined the University of Wisconsin Medical School as a Visiting Associate Dean for Faculty. Her one-year term began in July 2004. Mrs. Bickel will conduct focus groups with medical school women faculty members at all levels to assess gender climate and institutional practices. Bloom, M.D., has been named Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Drexel University College of Medicine, effective October 5, 2004. Dr. Bloom previously served as Professor of Psychiatry at Oregon Health and Science University, where he also served as Dean of the School of Medicine from 1994-2001. (http://www.drexel.edu/med/News/newsprint.asp?ID=41) Jessica Henderson Daniel, Ph.D., ABPP, Director of Training in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry and Associate Director of Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Training Program, Divison of Adolescent Medicine was elected Member-At-Large of the American Psychological Association Board of Directors. Her three-year term begins January 1, 2005. She is the first African American woman to serve on the Board of Directors. Dr. Daniel is highly regarded in the community for her important mentoring activities. The APA has a membership of over 150,000 psychologists. http://www.apa.org/ N. Lynn Eckhert, M.D., M.P.H., Dr. P.H., Director of Academic Programs for Harvard Medical International (the International Division of Harvard Medical School) is the new Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Eckhert succeeds Donald Wilson, M.D., Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Eckhert is past Chair of the AAMC Council of Academic Societies. Thomas M. Priselac, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cedars-Sinai Health System, has been named AAMC chair-elect.
