AAMC Diversity Policy and Programs

With the persistent and growing problem of disparities in health care and all the challenges of recruiting and retaining minority faculty to academic medicine, the AAMC's Division of Diversity Policy and Programs, formerly the Division of Community and Minority Programs, adopted a strategic plan to set a course for how it will promote diversity in academic medicine over the next five years. In addition to the three primary strategic initiatives in the table set forth below, the division collects resources for faculty regarding issues of diversity and equity:

To achieve its mission of advancing diversity in academic medicine, the division is engaged in programs and projects intended to increase racial and ethnic diversity among medical students, residents, faculty, researchers, and health-care policy makers and managers; conduct research to develop a solid evidentiary base to demonstrate the compelling need for diversity; and provide effective and efficient staff support to this group to help medical school Minority Affairs Section (MAS) representatives within their academic institutions and nationally.
