Training Opportunities

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified the following medical student elective opportunities at CDC offices in Atlanta and Cincinnati. This opportunity is made possible through AAMC's cooperative agreement with the CDC. Eligible candidates are medical students currently enrolled in medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Elective opportunities for students across the country (for 3rd and 4th year students):
Occupational Medicine (PDF, 4 pages) available Sept. 2004

Elective opportunities for students in the Atlanta area (for 3rd and 4th year students):
Public_Health Emergency Response (PDF, 3 pages) available Sept. 2004-June 2005

Elective opportunities for students in the Cincinnati area (for 3rd and 4th year students):
Occupational Medicine (PDF, 4 pages) available Oct. 2004-June 2005

Elective students will receive funds to support temporary relocation to CDC sites, including travel and temporary housing. Four-week elective students are eligible for up to $1800 in reimbursement; eight-week elective students are eligible for up to $3600.

Application procedures

To apply for a CDC medical student elective, please complete the application form and fax it to (202) 828-0961. You will receive confirmation of the receipt of your application materials within 48 hours. Applications will be reviewed at the AAMC and at the CDC. Candidates may be contacted to schedule brief telephone interviews with staff at AAMC and CDC.

Decisions regarding elective students are expected 1-3 weeks after receipt of applications. This Web site will be updated as positions are filled.

For Cincinnati and Atlanta-based elective students:

Through a special arrangement with CDC, the Occupational Medicine and Public Health Emergency Response activities may be available on a broader basis to elective (not summer project) students who are in the local vicinity of the Cincinnati and Atlanta CDC facilities. You are encouraged to apply for these elective opportunities.
