Letters
of Intent What is a Letter of Intent (LOI)? A LOI is a brief
description of a proposed research activity that researchers submit through their
membership association to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
for possible funding. For the 2008 funding cycle, the LOI will not be evaluated
for scientific or technical merit. Who may apply? Eligibility
and competition is open to all investigators that are members of one or more of
the following associations: Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Association
of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and the Association of Teachers of Preventive
Medicine (APTR). Investigators may submit LOIs in response to the Potential Extramural
Projects. LOIs may also be submitted for non-research Investigator Initiated projects. What
should a LOI include? Each LOI requires the LOI form and must be a maximum
of 3 pages, including the LOI form page. The LOI should be single spaced using
Courier New 12-point unreduced font, and written in plain language, avoiding jargon
and undefined acronyms. The LOI must include a brief summary of the proposed project
plan (for use in identifying potential reviewers). LOIs should not include appendices
or CVs.
LOI Submission Guidelines
Please note that for the
2008 funding cycle, LOIs must be submitted electronically to your respective association.
