AAMC-based ProjectsAppropriate Antibiotic Use Curriculum EvaluationPrincipal Investigator: David Korn, M.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Division of Biomedical and Health Sciences Research, AAMC Antimicrobial or antibacterial resistance is a critical problem for global public health. Diseases and conditions that were once easily treatable by antibiotics are now on the verge of becoming less treatable. As the number of resistant bacterial strains increase, and our antibiotic resources decrease, the need for the proper training of our future health workforce intensifies. Our goal is to decrease the spread of antimicrobial resistant bacterial strains in hospital and outpatient settings. The evaluation and implementation of a specific curriculum for medical students, which teaches appropriate use of and communication skills about antibiotics can bring about such a decrease. Information regarding the refined curriculum will be made available to our member institutions, as a possible educational resource. |
