July 10-13, 2010 - Ritz-Carlton Hotel - Washington, D.C.

The Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar is a three and a half-day program designed for women at the assistant professor or instructor level.

The program goal is to provide an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to follow the path to leadership in academic medicine. Topics covered span strategic communication skills to negotiation to leadership topics. Small-group sessions focus on mentoring participants in career building skills in narrative and CV development. The seminar faculty are chosen for their demonstrated leadership abilities from various schools in the United States and Canada and offer knowledge, inspiration and valuable career advice.

The seminar is targeted at physicians and Ph.D. scientists holding medical school appointments and considering leadership positions within their discipline, department or institution.

The February winter weather affected many of our members schools. The online application deadline has been extended to Thursday, March 18, 2010.

Late applications will not be possible or considered.

A complete application requires submission of three items at the same time:

  1. Online application.
  2. Online submission of a letter of intent and support from your home institution. The letter from your sponsoring entity (division, department, office…) should describe the rationale for your attendance and their agreement to provide financial support. The letter should be a maximum of one page in length (in Word or PDF format). Before uploading your letter, please save it and name the file as: LastnameFirstnameLetter.extension (e.g. SmithAnnaLetter.doc).
  3. Online submission of a current CV (in Word or PDF format). Before uploading your CV, please save it and name the file as: LastnameFirstname.extension (e.g. SmithAnna.doc). The file name must be one word and the extension must be "doc" or "PDF". We recognize that each participant may have a CV formatted to their school's requirements, but we recommend consulting the format posted at this for the purposes of this seminar: http://www.aamc.org/members/facultydev/modules/cv/cv.htm

Once you complete the online application, you will receive a confirmation via email.

Acceptance confirmations will be sent via e-mail in mid-April 2010.

Things to know about participating:

This is an interactive program. If you are accepted, you must attend the entire seminar and actively participate in preparatory assignments. During the seminar, the use of laptops is encouraged for accessing the online materials. No handouts will be distributed.
