FAIMER - An International Model for Faculty Development
Description: One of the goals of the Foundation
for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research
(FAIMER) is to improve the health of populations through improvement
in health professions education. FAIMER has developed approaches
to faculty development that offer opportunities for others to learn
from experiences of resource challenged sites and successful "train
the trainer" models. The session provides a unique opportunity to
learn from international faculty involved in the FAIMER program
about their experiences, lessons learned from those experiences,
lessons the FAIMER faculty have learned, and how some of the lessons
may be applied to U.S. settings.
The session will feature U.S. medical school faculty
involved in international medical education in discussion with FAIMER
fellows and session participants about:
1. Objectives for international faculty development
2. Success stories of resource challenged sites and implications
for U.S. schools
3. Opportunities for collaboration between US and international
faculty development efforts
