IIME Curriculum Grants Programs
To foster the development and dissemination of educational innovations needed to address contemporary learning objectives, IIME has partnered with grant funding organizations to create topical small grant award programs for medical educators that are managed through the Institute and financed by the external partner. Active curriculum grants initiatives include:
Enhancing Cultural Competence Education in Medical Schools
California Endowment
Four California medical schools were awarded 2 year grants in 2005 to engage students in learning experiences designed to expand their understanding of cultural issues that shape patient experience of illness and healthcare, as well as how cultural issues inform physician delivery of care.

Enhancing Education for Chronic Illness Care
Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation
Ten undergraduate and ten graduate medical education programs were awarded planning grants to improve how medical students and resident physicians are educated about the challenges and rewards of caring for patients with chronic illnesses. The long-term aim of this initiative is to shift the focus of undergraduate and graduate medical education to place more emphasis on the critical importance of management of chronic disease in modern society.

Quality Healthcare and GME Design

Linda Lesky, M.D., was awarded a planning conference grant March 2006 to convene medical school teams to engage around issues related to the development of a research agenda to explore how data on physicians' scope of practice and clinical outcomes might inform the design and conduct of GME programs in various clinical disciplines.
