In the AAMC's ongoing effort to promote new and unique continuing
education activities, we have located and highlighted such activities
from programs across the U.S. and Canada. Continually updated, this
page provides information on programs that can serve as model activities
for other CME providers.
University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine:

Remedial Programs for referred and self-referred physicians
These programs are offered to physicians who identify a need
within their practice to develop new skills are augment existing
skills, and to physicians who have taken part in either a peer-review
program or a licensing assessment which has identified areas
of deficit.

Inter- and multi-professional conferences with Departments
of Continuing Nursing, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy Education
These programs are designed to assist all health care professionals
to learn with, from and about each other, and focus on health
care areas of importance to physicians where effective use of
all human resources will improve health care outcomes and streamline

A primary care practice-based research network (PBRN) devoted to
producing knowledge useful to primary care physicians and their
patients. KAN is a collaborative effort involving primary care physicians,
the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, and the
Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians.

Mastery: A Practical Approach to Evidence-Based Medicine
This highly interactive course presents practical and user-friendly
methods for finding, evaluating and applying the best evidence when
caring for patients. The course comprises a two-day Introduction
to Information Mastery, to help learners acquire the core concepts
and skills of information mastery, and a one-day Advanced Skills
Course for Teachers, to provide health professional faculty with
instruction and practice in teaching information mastery.

Physician Re-Entry Program
Physicians decide to leave clinical care for many reasons. Sometimes,
they regret the decision and wish to return to patient care. In
Oregon, they can now turn to the new OHSU Physician Re-entry Program
which gives physicians the opportunity to refresh and update their
knowledge, and then to become active again in patient care. The
program is an innovative, low-cost way to help address physician
workforce shortages.
