Volunteers and Donations

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has established a Web site and toll-free number (1-866-KAT-MEDI) to identify health care professionals and relief personnel to assist in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The site includes a list of the different health care professionals and relief workers who are needed. This effort is being coordinated by the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General.

• Sign up to become a volunteer physician through the Federation of State Medical Boards.
  
• If volunteers from your institution are deployed to help with the relief effort, please inform the AAMC by sending email to katrinareliefproviders@aamc.org


• Volunteers with no health care background can find information by visiting USA Freedom Corps or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.


• The Gold Foundation has established a Katrina Assistance Fund to support medical students, residents, and faculty who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. Learn more about the foundation and its grant process.


• Donate through a reputable charity or relief organization, or give directly to an affected academic medical center. (PDF - 3 pages, 52 KB)
