Frequently Asked Questions — Canadian Graduation Questionnaire (CGQ)
General
When will the CGQ open for students' responses?
The 2009 CGQ will open on March 2, 2009. The CGQ will be available
to students until mid-July 2009.
How can students log in to the CGQ?
Students can log into the CGQ Tools Web site (AAMC Login required)
Are students required to complete the CGQ?
If a school has existing academic policies that require students
to complete program evaluation materials in order to proceed to
graduation, then the school may require its students to attempt
to complete the CGQ Program Evaluation Survey.
Students
I am a fourth-year medical student trying to access the CGQ. How
do I log in?
Your school will provide you with your AAMC ID Number to login
to the Canadian GQ, or you may click on the "Get AAMC ID"
link located on the login page of the survey
How do I know my answers are confidential?
Student responses are stored in a database at the AAMC. Your responses
on the CGQ are identified, but only released back to the schools
with your express consent. The AAMC does not release any personally
identified data to outside organizations. The CGQ has been reviewed
by the American Institutes for Research IRB to ensure that necessary
safeguards for human subjects are present and will continue to exist.
School Administrators
How can school administrators track their students' progress and
completion?
School administrators can log in to the CGQ Tools Web site (AAMC Login required).
CGQ school administrators can also use this site to monitor the
progress of their students as they complete the CGQ. Response summaries
are provided for both CGQ surveys.
For the 2009 CGQ, a student list will be created within CGQ Tools
Web site, and a detailed list of the students' progress and completion
is provided. From the reports tab on the CGQ Tools Web site, school
administrators may also view archived school-specific reports from
previous years' CGQ administrations. In the fall of each calendar
year, final school reports will be available at this site.
How can my school improve its response and completion rate for
the CGQ?
We encourage school administrators and their colleagues to make
a critical contribution to the success of the CGQ by personally
making students aware of the importance of the CGQ. In addition
to a message directly from the dean or dean's office, the following
are some specific actions that schools might undertake:
-
Include the CGQ as a primary activity to be completed on "checklists"
provided to students prior to the beginning of the 4th year.
-
Seek out the endorsement of school-based student groups to
encourage students to complete both sections of the CGQ.
-
Regularly monitor and provide feedback to students regarding
their completion status during the survey period.
-
Reinforce to students the importance of their responses to
the CGQ during financial aid exit interviews and during other
regular contacts with students.
-
Establish completion of the CGQ as an essential component of
the students' commitment to professionalism.
