HHS Regulatory Reform Committee
On Dec. 26, 2001, Secretary Thompson announced the appointment of
27 members to a new Advisory Committee on Regulatory Reform. The
committee is charged with assisting the Secretary to "streamline
burdensome, inefficient regulations that interfere with the quality
of health care for Americans" particularly in the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA). The four general areas that the Advisory Committee intends
to impact include: health care delivery, health systems operations,
biomedical and health research, and the development of pharmaceuticals
