Urge Congress to Enact Payment Relief
Write Congress now to tell them they must not adjourn for
the year without enacting provider relief for teaching hospitals
and physicians. More >>
Additionally, the AAMC and seven other hospital organizations
are calling on Congress to sign a "Commitment to My Community's
Hospitals" in support of restoring Medicare and Medicaid
funds cut as of Oct. 1. Help make hospital provider payment
relief a priority for Congress by obtaining a commitment from
your Senators and Representatives to not adjourn until relief
legislation has been enacted. More

"The American Hospital Preservation Act" (S.
839/ H.R. 1556)
The AAMC advocates keeping IME payments at the current level
of 6.5 percent, as set forth in bipartisan legislation, S.839/H.R.
1556, "The American Hospital Preservation Act."
Under current law, IME payments are scheduled to be reduced
in fiscal year (FY) 2003 to 5.5 percent. While the June 28
House-passed "Medicare Modernization and Prescription
Drug Act of 2002" (H.R.
4954) includes some IME relief for teaching hospitals,
the AAMC continues to urge the IME to be maintained at current
levels. Maintaining IME at 6.5 is critical to ensuring Medicare
beneficiaries' access to highly specialized, regional and
key community services provided by teaching hospitals. More >>
