HHS Awards Public Health Preparedness
Funds to States
June 18, 2004 - The Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) June 17 announced
the awarding of $849 million to the states under the Public Health
Preparedness and Response Cooperative Agreement, administered by
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is in
addition to the $498 million in hospital preparedness money released
last month [see Washington Highlights,
May 28].
The states may use the funds according to their HHS-approved plans,
including improving communication and coordination between hospitals,
local and state health departments, and laboratories and increasing
the number of people trained in emergency response.
