Young Releases Subcommittee
Allocations
June 4, 2004 - House Appropriations Chairman C.W.
Bill Young (R-Fla.) June 2 released the FY 2005 allocations
for each of the13 appropriations subcommittees. Also known
as the 302(b) allocations, these numbers serve as spending
limits for each subcommittee. The allocations will not become
official until they are ratified by a majority of the House
Appropriation Committee members.
In releasing the allocations, Chairman Young noted, "In
both the deeming resolution and the Budget Conference Report,
the Budget Committee reduced our allocation by nearly $2 billion
below the President's request. As a result, the non-defense
allocations in an already tight budget are even tighter. We
are fully funding our national security requirements while
providing some additional resources to bolster our homeland
security. The austere funding levels for the remaining subcommittees
will make it challenging to move bills through the legislative
process."
The allocation for the Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee is
$142.3 billion, an increase of $3.4 billion (2.4 percent)
over the FY 2004 level but only $267 million more than President
Bush's FY 2005 request. The VA-HUD-Independent Agencies subcommittee
received an allocation of $92.9 billion; $2.1 billion (2.3
percent) over FY 2004 and $801 million more than the president's
budget.
