March, 5, 2004 - Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) announced March 3 his decision to not seek reelection this fall. Sen. Campbell was first elected to the Senate as a Democrat in 1993, and switched to the Republican Party in 1995. He serves on the Appropriations, Veterans Affairs, Energy and Natural Resources, and Indian Affairs committees. Sen. Campbell is the 8th Senator (3 Republicans, 5 Democrats) to announce his retirement this year.
