NIH Announces Conflict of Interest Panel Co-Chairs

Janaury 23, 2004 - National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D., Jan. 22 announced the appointment of Bruce Alberts, Ph.D., and Norman Augustine to chair the NIH Blue Ribbon Panel on Conflict of Interest Policies [see Washington Highlights, Jan. 9]. The panel, which will be comprised of members of the Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD), the NIH Director's Council of Public Representatives (COPR) and distinguished experts, will examine the guidelines governing consulting activities of NIH scientists. Dr. Alberts is president of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and Mr. Augustine is Chairman of the Executive Committee of Lockheed Martin.
