HHS Names Acting CMS Administrator
December 19, 2003 - Secretary of Health and Human
Services Tommy Thompson Dec. 17 announced the appointment
of Dennis Smith as Acting Administrator of the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Mr. Smith currently
serves as Director of CMS' Center for Medicaid and State Operations.
He replaces Tom Scully who resigned effective Dec. 16 [see
Washington
Highlights,
Dec. 5].
